Future-proofing headset purchases for modern laptops and IP desk phones

Hey fellow IT admins! I'm currently putting together a bulk hardware requisition order, browsing through suppliers like PMC Telecom for reliable USB headsets. One recurring headache for our department is port compatibility: half our staff are using older corporate laptops with standard USB-A ports, while incoming staff are equipped with sleek new ultrabooks featuring exclusively USB-C ports. Are you guys buying native USB-C headsets with USB-A adapters, or sticking to USB-A with dongles? What holds up better against daily office abuse?

We faced the same issue during a recent hardware refresh. In the end, we standardised on USB-C headsets that included high-quality USB-A adapters. That approach gave us better compatibility with both older laptops and newer ultrabooks while reducing the number of different models we needed to support. The most important factors were build quality, reinforced cables, and reliable connectors, as these tend to fail before the speakers or microphone. We also kept a few spare adapters on hand for replacements. Comparing different USB headset options made it much easier to find models that balanced durability, compatibility, and long-term value.
